About Me

I grew up in a small town in northern Indiana that was famous for a glass factory exploding. I come from a long line of garage inventors; in another life, my father built airplanes wings in our garage. Lacking any formal training in aerodynamics he was quickly sued by a French (Canadian) singer that put the wings on his plane. I’m assuming he didn’t fly very far, or at all, but the details are a bit of a mystery. I fix espresso makers in my garage. It’s not as ambitious I admit but the upside is if they don’t work, you won’t fall from the sky.

My career path has been a little bit of a river. I went to school for old fashion photography. The kind that magically appears on silver halide, and then magically disappears from the earth. When I was just out of college I worked for a printing company based out of Israel. I traveled the world at the ripe age of twenty-three and installed grand format digital printers. It was a blast. From there I took a job as a Production Manager in New York City. We did giant building scape advertisements; they were a menace to the city and society in general. The Apple “Think Different” campaign was defacing the boroughs at the time.  From there I headed to California. I lived in Gardena, mostly because of the Beastie Boys song (not wise) and then I slowly migrated south. Laguna, Dana Point, and then finally San Clemente. In San Clemente, I was somehow lucky enough to meet my wife, and then my daughter.

After a while, we moved to Italy. We lived outside of Torino, and I worked in a mass production factory for sunglass lenses. The food was amazing and the people even more so, and the Alps they were a complete showstopper. The cafe’s and the art of how to take a break are something I will never forget.  I talk a lot more with my hands now, and arguing has become something that is more fun than emotional.

Eventually, we moved to Lima Peru where I went to work in a factory that makes windshields for automobiles. I focused on optics and used my lens makers past to try and dream up new ways of doing things. I am in research and development and have been now for some time. Innovation and creativity are great bedfellows, and they both have their hooks in me. Bringing new things into the world is a daunting task, you have to be crazy enough to believe you can really do it, and stupid enough to really go through with it.

I have two dogs, or they have me. I play a bad guitar (I am not being humble). I love Jazz, Folk, and Bluegrass music. I like to sail but I’m really bad at remembering knots, and I’m just getting into diving. Photography is a still a passion and I am lucky enough to have never made it into a job.
